IRA Newsletter Project: Effective
Literacy Website Review #7
The
common sense website gives you many links to website about technology, media,
research, opportunity for parents and teacher, etc. I have selected a website
that is part of the common sense which is (https://www.commonsense.org/education/top-picks/best-common-core-ela-tools-for-high-school).
The website that I selected focuses on ways to help English learners succeed in
reading, writing and communication. These tools help high school students to
master “skills in reading, writing, and critical thinking skills in areas like
textual, analysis, narrative and research writing”. To enable these students to
get their mastery skills, teachers need to have access to tools or ways that
can be used or applied in the classroom so that the students could be given
opportunity to gain more. These tools that are discussed on the website
provides activities for scaffolding, projects, classroom discussions, feedback
on students work and measuring learning outcomes.
There
are two tools that I find interesting among many other tools on the website.
The first tool that is discussed among the tools is called LearnZillion.
The LearnZillion tool is a Quality Common Core-aligned lesson with great
modeling for teachers. It is a free tools that can be obtain online. This tool
is for K-12. The second tool is called the ReadWorksDigital.
The Read Works Digital is a researched-based site that makes it easy to assign,
and differentiate readings. “It is an effective digital reinvention of the
trusted ReadingWorks platform that makes it simple to distribute and track
high-quality reading assignments. It is a free tool online and is used for
K-12.
This
website is beneficial for educators because it gives educators ways to accommodate
all the learners in the classroom because of the tools. It mainly benefits
students because they are the ones who are getting the highlights to gain their
mastery skills.
