Effective Literacy Website #6 Seussville
Seussville is great for children that are beginning to read. This website focuses on Dr. Seuss’ whimsical books and classic characters that are brought to life through interactive games, videos, and activities that the child will enjoy and love. Right when you enter the website, you are greeted by Dr. Seuss’ famous characters from his books and each character will take you to different places in Seussville.
This website showcases all of Dr. Seuss books along with lesson plans and activities; great for parents and educators. There are also games for some of the books that help with alphabet, word identification, rhyming, crossword puzzles, and many more. Before you begin a game, a page from a book will be read aloud with the words on the screen so children can follow along. The page is easy to navigate through with clear tabs on the top of the page, each time you place your mouse over something, it will be read out loud which I think is great for little kids.
There is also an Educators corner that share important news, announcements, special events, celebrations, and tips on how to incorporate Dr. Seuss books into your lesson plans, and printables and activities that can be used at home and the classroom.
Seussville is a great resource to use for children Pre-K through the first grade because at this stage they are beginning to read, recognize letters, putting letters together and rhyming. Those that are in teaching in Early Childhood would greatly benefit from this.
