IRA Newsletter Project Effective Literacy Website #4
IXL (https://www.ixl.com) is about creating and supporting the best educational technology possible. The website is based on the power of technology and being able to challenge users in different ways. IXL can be used in the classroom by providing students with immediate feedback, insight on their own growth and support from their teachers the moment they need it. Majority of the skills that I was able to look at were based off of Common Core Standards which I thought was neat.
The website’s homepage shows choices of buttons that will take you to the specific grade level appropriate skills that the user may use as an activity. The homepage also shows that IXL is based on recommendations from present users, and can be based on analytics in the classroom. In order for teachers to utilize IXL, they need to purchase a license or they can start the free trial that lasts for 30 days.
IXL is a great literacy tool because it can be used as an assessment tools to get detailed reports about student successes and areas for improvement. It offers extra practice that is easier to follow along in the classroom for the students. The website is well designed and is easy to navigate through. Unfortunately, the website is not a favorite of mine considering the price put on the licenses to utilize the website. I am sure there are other websites that are offered for free that may sum up to the amount of skills that can be used on IXL.
