IRA Newsletter Project: Effective Literacy Website #6
The Family Reading Partnership (http://www.familyreading.org/great-ideas/favorite-websites/websites-promoting-literacy/) is a broad-based, locally grown
coalition of individuals, businesses, schools, libraries and other
organizations. They all have joined forces to “create a culture of literacy” by
promoting family reading practices throughout the community. The Family Reading
Partnership know that literacy, the ability to read, write and communicate
clearly will define a child’s future success in school and in life. They also
know that literacy development, the process that brings children to reading,
begins in the first years of life at home. The reading partnership believes
that long before children enter school, early experiences with books build a
strong foundation for learning. By working together, the reading partnership
strive to incorporate family reading awareness, encouragement and books into
networks and services that already touch the lives of families.
The Programs and Initiatives of the
Family Reading Partnership provide books and encouragement for families to make
reading aloud to their children a part of everyday life. Family Reading
Partnership gives books to families and encouragement and support for families
to read to their young children. The website has a line of literacy tools designed
especially to help families and children fall in love with books and reading!
The Family Literacy Engagement Tools are designed to reach families in many
ways through words, pictures, sounds, movement, activities, and with other suggested
additional resources.
Whether the Family Reading
Partnership Program is for your own family, a friend, or families whom you
serve, the books, calendars, or cards are a joyful way for any family to share
literacy together. The resources in this website are colorful, interactive, and
full of fun for young children and the grown-ups in their lives!
