IRA Newsletter Project Effective Literacy Website #5

Language is a Virus (http://www.languageisavirus.com/index.php#.XC3B3i2B0Xo) is website that was created to help cure writer’s block and inspire creativity for writers.. The website has a variety of things writers can choose from to enhance or spark their writing. Users’ can choose from a multitude of writing games, generators, writing prompts and exercises, tips, experiments and manifestoes from other writers and how-to articles on fiction writing and poetry. The target audience for the website seems to be the middle school, high school and college level.
The first thing that caught my attention when I opened the website was the big red button that says “Generate New Word Prompt.” This along with the button choices on the top right were intriguing to me. The website enhances a writer’s ability to look at other ways to continue their writing. The homepage also shows other articles that can help writers or spark ideas.
Language is a Virus is a great literacy tool because it can be used for middle and high school students who are in need of inspiration to continue on with their writing. It offers extra writing techniques, manipulations and generators that will be beneficial to writers who may need motivation. The website is well designed and is easy to navigate through. I think the website may come in handy for my future students when it comes to writing and having a writer’s block. Back when I went to school, I was always faced with the tendency to have writer’s block and this could’ve helped me a lot!
