IRA Effective Literacy Website #3: BrainPop
BrainPop is an essential engagement tool that allows both student and teachers to be involved in the learning process. Brainpop focuses on STEM, Social Studies, Reading/Writing, Health, and Art skills. There are three different learning websites that Brainpop offers, which are; Brainpop jr. which is suited for students grades Kindergarten through the third grade; the main Brainpop website for upper elementary school students and secondary; and BrainpopELL for all ages.
There are many short lesson clips accompanied by a quiz at the end of the lesson to check for understanding and also engaging learning games, animated movies, and activities that all three of this website offers. All video clips are no longer than 5 minutes, this is perfect for younger students with short attention span.
In order to access this website and all it’s contents, there is a fee to subscribe with many options to suite your needs at home or in the classroom.  There are some free lessons that you can access with limited topics and subjects. I personally have my own subscription that I use in my classroom and at home for my child. It’s a great reinforcement to lessons and activities for your current topic of discussion.
