Effective Literacy Website #1: Reading Rockets

                Reading rockets (http://www.readingrockets.org/) offers information and resources that help kids and adults both learn and improve with its vast array of strategies and techniques. It is a national multi-media literacy spot.  As stated in the website, “the goal is to bring reading research to life- to spread the word about reading instruction and to present “ what works” in a way that parents and educators can understand and use.”
An incident caused the naming of the website, Reading Rocket, came to be. Louisa Moats, a researcher, who found it immensely difficult to teach reading named her article “Teaching Reading Is Rocket Science.” This then became the origin for the Reading Rocket name and its launching in 2001.
Reading Rockets generates free evidential based information in relation to reading through three major services: online services, professional development opportunities, and PBS television program, also including a social network on Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube. It provides a vast array of resources about teaching children to read and assists with students who struggle to read in variation forms such as videos, articles, and much more.
                 Explore and find out for yourself the rich array of information that will greatly benefit a child today.
