IRA Newsletter Project Effective Literacy Website #1 

            Reading Rockets (http://www.readingrockets.org) is a national multimedia project that offers a wealth of research-based reading strategies, lessons, and activities. The website is a great literacy promoter because it was designed to help young children learn how to read and read better. The reading resources assist parents, teachers, and other educators in helping struggling readers build fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension skills.

            The website’s homepage showcases a quick slideshow of some tips that may be useful to the public. There are different drop box menus for teaching reading, helping struggling readers, reading topics and children’s books authors. A slideshow is also on the homepage that can take you to resources like simple activities that may build literacy using science inquiry skills, finding resources to help kids become strong readers and writers and reading tips for parents that is offered in 13 languages! 

            Reading Rockets is a great literacy tool because it bases all its information on research-based reading strategies. It offers interactive games, resources that can be used by any educator, and stays up to date with what’s new or popular. The website is well designed and is easy to navigate through.
