Readwritethink
(http://www.readwritethink.org) is
an online resource that contains lessons, interactive activities, printable, including
an app that assists students in improving their reading and writing skills. In partnership with the ILA- International Literacy
Association (previously IRA), NCTE (National Council of Teachers of English,
and Verizon Foundation this sites serves language arts from preK-12th
grade. The site is organized into sections: Classroom Resources, Professional
Development, Videos, and Parent & Afterschool Resources. Under each heading
consists of numerous lessons and activities that are divided by subject,
learning objectives, and grade level. Although the website is primarily focused
on language arts, materials for other subjects like science, history, or math
skills can be found as well. Interactive games for children can also be found
on readwritethink. Resources on readwritethink are considered classroom-tested
and evidence-based. All curriculum given on the site are examined by at least
two literacy educators.
Considering
that the vast array of high-quality contents, it’s a great resource especially
when it’s completely free. Teachers will appreciate its standard alignment and
easy step-by-step lesson plans and students will enjoy, too. Contents cover
almost everything from vocabulary to reading skills. The readwritethink app allows
students to connect with literacy- learning using electronic devices. Any
educator or teacher can integrate given lesson plans and activities into
classroom uses. The vast number of resources guarantees you’ll find something
that works for you one way or the other.
