Every-Day Edits (https://www.educationworld.com/a_lesson/archives/edit.shtml)
is a free resource for K-12 students that is found on the EducationWorld.com
website. Every-Day edits is a quick way for students to practice their revising
skills on a small scale. This websites provides paragraphs for students to edit
for each day of the school year!
By
incorporating Every-Day edits into a typical class session, students are able
to build cultural literacy. The paragraphs on Every-Day Edits are broken down
by months, and they provide educational background information about the month’s
events. For example, in the January list, a paragraph on Martin Luther King Jr.
can be found, and on the September list, a paragraph on the September 11 Monuments
can be selected. In addition to monthly happenings, other paragraphs include
famous authors, inventions, and historical figures.
This
resource is especially useful because it requires students to slow down and
focus. During peer-review, students may overlook
common spelling and grammatical errors, but exercises like Every-Day edits gets
them in the habit of thoroughly checking their work and identifying and
correcting common mistakes.
Every-Day
Edits comes equipped with an uncorrected paragraph for students to revise, and
an answer key for teachers. Also available for printing are PDFs of each
paragraph that students can use to mark their revisions.
